About

SAJA Project is a collaboration between artists, Jamie Gabriel (Aus) and Sally Jamila (NZ). Their creative projects revolve around creating sonic experiences that blend layered vocal textures with music, loops and samples. Having worked together for over 30 years, their genre-blending styles range throughout their live performances and recordings from layered evocative soundscapes to jazz, cinematic-groove, world-fusion, and harmony somewhat reminiscent of the late romantic period with a little noise and dissonance thrown in for dark spiciness.

Having studied Jazz together as teens in music school in Sydney, Jamie branched into learning classical harmony and then scaled up to complete a Phd in music and computational musicology, while Sally explored Indian Carnatic music and was introduced to Bulgarian vocal polyphony.

Above all, they love the variation and freedom of being able to play different sets of music and genres, depending on the context and our passion.
